Ever since the first version of Angry Birds was released in 2009, the series have engaged millions of casual players in its super addictive physics-based Bird-Flinging gameplay. But developer Rovio (Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage and Tiny Thief) found it not satisfying enough. Last year the company, in collaboration with LucasFilm, released a Star Wars-themed version called Angry Birds Star Wars, which has scored over 100 million downloads. Today, Rivio has announced that it’s about to release a follow-up titled Angry Birds Star Wars II.

The new title will feature a new story as well as over 30 familiar characters from the second trilogy of Star Wars films, including young Anakin, Mace Windu, General Grievous, Darth Maul, and many more. There will also be an option that let players join “the pork side” to fight for the notorious pigs.

The game will be built with Hasbro’s Telepod technology, which will allow players to scan Angry Birds Star Wars II toys into the game and to choose whatever type of bird to attack with.

According to the announcement, there are over 30 toys available to choose from at launch, and more content to be added in the future update.

The game is slated to launch on September 19, 2013. Rovio will show off “Angry Birds Star Wars 2″ for the first time at this week’s Comic-Con convention in San Diego. We will keep a close watch and bring you more updates. Stay tuned!
