I am MT: Card Battle is a trading card game for iOS and Android. The title I AM MT refers to an unofficial World of Warcraft derivative animation show, which has been popular in China for years. It was adapted into a mobile game by Locojoy last year and turns out to be a great success. Now, the developer is aiming at the global market by bringing the English iOS version to the North American App store.
The game provides a total of over 500 cards to collect and players will be collecting animation character cards as well as World of Warcraft monster cards. According to their rarity, cards in I am MT are divided into six star grades and five color grades. Similar to the WOW character classes, there are nine card classes in this game, which largely fall into three types: Tank, DPS and Healer. Each card belongs to a job class and has its own unique skill sets and stats.
A card can be enhanced in two ways. All cards can be leveled up to gain better stats, and the only way to level up a card is refining the unwanted cards using gold. Rarer cards can also be upgraded in star grades after they reach the top levels, and acquire superiority in every way. Extra cards and gold are obtainable through exploring instance dungeons and challenging bosses.
The gaming time a player spends on this game is largely dependent on challenging dungeon monsters in battle. The battle system in I am MT blends a heavy proportion of RPG elements. In each dungeon, the player will be facing three waves of enemies and fighting in a turn-based manner. A battle team is consisted of up to six cards. Before starting off, the player will select five cards from the collection and invite a stranger friend to join in with his or her leader card.
Once the battle starts, the character cards will be going to battle against enemies automatically, while the cards of different classes will be duly performing their functions. The player controls the battle mainly through the arrangement of the team. During the battle, the cards line up in two rows. The basic rule is to place the tank class and warrior on the front to attract the enemies’ attack, and the DPS and healer class on the back. Knowledge about classes in WOW will be helpful, as the card classes originate from the character classes in WOW and the card selection and combat team building can be of great importance in this game.
For an online game, I am MT: Card Battle doesn’t stress too much on the social features. It does encourage players to add as many friends as possible to engage in PvP, but players may not use this in-game chat to interact with each other. The gameplay is more akin to that of a single-player RPG.
I am MT: Card Battle is a splendid game. The game itself is well crafted. The RPG elements make this trading card game much more fun to play. The whimsically designed characters and plot were evoking hearty laughs for those who are familiar with WOW or the I am MT animation. On the downside, the game features lots of punch lines that are only popular in a certain type of culture. There is no guarantee that players with different background can understand them.
