LINE Cookie Run is a cute side-scrolling endless running game for iOS and Android. Presented by Naver Japan, it is built for LINE, a Japanese social network App like Facebook or Twitter. LINE Cookie Run is nothing more than another Mini Ninjas, or Robot Unicorn Attack. But it is much better than any previous titles.

You start off by playing as an adorable cookie, which looks pretty much like the gingerbread man in the Shrek films, and your goal is to outrun the witch that is trying to catch you and cook you.

Even if you are new to LINE Cookie Run, you won’t feel awkward with its controls. There are two keys placed respectively at the bottom left and bottom right corner. You can tap the left key to jump, tap two times to perform a double jump, and tap the right key to slide.

As you run, you collect coins and power-ups, dodge obstacles, and watch out for pitfalls, just like what you’ve done in any other endless runner. While the mechanics are seemingly pretty simple to understand, it takes a lot of practice to truly master. It could be a lighthearted run at first, but turns to be a real challenging and adrenaline-pumping escape in mere seconds.

One thing that makes LINE Cookie Run stand out from other similar games is that it brings in a HP bar for the character. Every second of the run consumes a certain amount of HP, while hitting on the obstacles consumes a large amount of HP. When your HP drops to zero, the run will end. That means, unlike other endless runners, you may not die instantly as you hit one barrier, most likely two or three in a row though. Of course, there will be power-ups along the way that can restore your HP. You can also use the coins you gain through each run to upgrade the HP storage so that longer runs will be technically possible.

Your character can even have a pet as his/her company. Each pet has a particular skill. For example, some pets can help you in collecting coins, some lifts you up from a pit, and some can even transform obstacles into coins. So equipping different pets will grant you totally different gaming experience.

LINE Cookie Run is best to be played with connection to the LINE social network. You are not forced to do so though, as you can also log on as a guest. But if you have a LINE account and log on with it, you can play with your friends, and you can also send and accept lives to and from your friends and earn more gift points.

Naver Japan employs almost everything possible in the genre to make the game challenging, as well as entertaining. As runners like Temple Run, run their way downhill, we will have our fingers crossed for that one day LINE Cookie Run can take a position at the top charts of the App Store.
