Square Enix, the Japanese video game tycoon famous for creating the Final Fantasy series and the Dragon Quest series, just released a new mobile game called Deadman’s Cross, which turns out to be a zombie-themed card battle RPG. The game is a spin-off of the previously released card game Guardian Cross.
We spent some minutes in the game and found that the game closely resembles Guardian Cross in almost every respect, ranging from interface, to artwork, and to gameplay. We did see a remarkable improvement on the visuals, but that’s pretty much all there is.
For those of you who haven’t played Guardian Cross, it’s a card battle game where players capture creatures to form a deck of cards that they use to battle other players. PvP battles proceed in a turn-based manner, while the capturing of creatures is a first person sniper shooting mini-game.
Deadman’s Cross does bring something noteworthy - an invigorating clan system, which allows players to work together with other members of the same clan to complete large-scale mission objectives and earn rewards scaled to their personal contribution. This is a feature Guardian Cross doesn’t have and one you must try out on your own device.
With the previous success of Guardian Cross, it’s pretty obvious what Square Enix is aiming at. It’s quite a similar case with Supercell’s recent release of Boom Beach after Clash of Clans’ smash hit in the past two years. And it’ll be an interesting thing to see how far they can actually go. We at AppsGoer will keep a close watch.
