Inspired by games like Temple Run 2 and World of Warcraft, Running Quest is a unique blend of endless running and action role-playing. Your goal is still to run as far as you can, but you have to counter enemies along the way. There are also a lot of events that let you collect and upgrade items like those in typical action RPGs.
The game has a simple yet familiar story which might be reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings. The magic and evil Stone of Shattered Planes, which can be used to open a portal to the planes of darkness stolen by Nimus, a master thief and clock work engineer who devised an evil plan to reign the Agarom. That’s how your quest begins. You must outrun Nimus and retrieve the Stone. Anyway, the story can just serve as a lead-in, without any factual meanings, for it’s an endless running adventure and you won’t catch up with Nimus by any means.
There are two characters, one male and one female, to choose from upon first entry. Once picking one, you will have to wait until level 10 to unlock another one.
Controls and the path you run along are pretty much like those in Temple Run. You can swipe up or down to jump or slide and tilt to collect orbs along the way. One addition is that sometimes you have to tap to slash oncoming enemies. Enemies range from level 1 to 5. Your attack will be blocked if your weapon does not have a damage rating high enough to kill the enemy. Once your power meter fills up you can double tap to use an ability. You can also buy and equip new abilities.
Just like Temple Run, Running Quest also throws you a great number of challenges, that drives you to run over and over again. Fulfilling these challenges will earn you a fair amount of coins or gems, which can be used to purchase better armor and weapons.
To make it short, Running Quest has its own share of ingenuity by blending endless running and action role-playing elements. But its graphics are barely inviting and the characters are awfully animated, spoiling an otherwise fresh and invigorating game.
