Royal Revolt 2 Review

When Royal Revolt was released on the App Store in 2012, It quickly became a hit thanks to its cartoon-style graphics, easy-to-master controls and solid real-time strategy. With the success of Royal Revolt, Developer flaregames has recently brought a new sequel to this popular franchise. This time, you will see a lot of changes and improvements, and of course, a lot of stuff that have been used in other successful games.

Like its predecessor, the new sequel also allows you to assume the role of a young prince who must protect his own kingdom from being attacked. You will have to build your troops, spells, towers, traps, and by any means to protect and thrive your kingdom. In essence, Royal Revolt 2 can be divided into two parts: Defense and Attack. Inside the kingdom, you are able to create magical spells in Wizard’s Tower, forge weapons in Inventor’s workshop and train various types of units in troop academy. Outside the kingdom, you will have to build your farms, setup traps, and construct towers and other structures along the way that enemies will come close to your kingdom.

Unlike most of tower defense games where defenders could only set more and higher-level towers and traps on the sides of a fixed road, in Royal Revolt 2, you could change the path that invaders walk on. On the path to your kingdom, you can build Barricade, Spikes and Blockage to delay enemy’s attack so that your towers and troops have enough time to take care of them. This is also where the core strategy lies.

Royal Revolt 2 is not yet a simple tower defense game. It actually encourages you to attack enemies. To this extent, it feels like more a Clash of Clans than Royal Revolt itself. As I mentioned earlier, you need to build up your kingdom. To do this, you must keep attacking for Coins and resources that can be used to build higher-level troops and buildings.

The types of units are somewhat similar to those of Clash of Clans. Knights work like Barbarians, Paladins like Giants, and Frosters like Wizards. Meanwhile, Royal Revolt 2 also has Archer Unit. Rather than train these troops in the academy before going to war, you simply tap on the Attack icon and then head to the outside of an enemy’s kingdom. At this time, you could summon troops and use spells you have already unlocked to attack everything that blocks you to destroy the kingdom. However, Each type of unit has a different cooldown timer and the whole battle only gives you 3 minutes, so you must balance your strategy and create your ideal troops for final victory.

I have seen a lot of people comparing Roayal Revolt 2 with Clash of Clan. In fact, Royal Revolt 2 draws a lot from Clash of Clans except that Royal Revolt 2 does not features a Clan System. Most of the time, you need to build and upgrade your structures that take longer times as your structures’ level goes up. It is a free to play title, so you can purchase Gems to instantly finish those upgrading and building.

Royal Revolt 2 has a great reward system that rewards you both Glory Points and Gems. Upon the completion of each mission, you will be given some rewards. Of course, if you want more such luxury, you will have to pay for it.

Royal Revolt 2 is a great tower defense strategy game that features quality 3D visuals, detailed cartoon-style characters as well as a solid rewarding strategy mechanism. You must balance all the stuff to make sure your kingdom performing well, ready to launch attack against enemies. The game was done quietly well. Its graphics are superb and the performance is smooth. The only complaint I had is that Royal Revolt 2 does not have a Clash System and most of the time, you play against matchmaking enemies. You cannot be provocative and friendly to all kingdoms you have visited.
