Tower defense games are among the most playable games on the platform of iOS. In TD games, you don’t have to stretch your reflex to the limit like what you do in running or racing games, you don’t have to press the screen harder and harder until your fingers get hurt like in fighting or action games, and you don’t have to tease your mind again and again like in puzzle games. But what you do have to do in tower defense games is exploit your wits to the max so as to devise your best strategies. And that, I guess, is where the charm of the tower defense genre lies.
Here we at Appsgoer compiled a list of great tower defense games released on iOS devices in the past months of 2013. You may have heard of a few of them, but you will never know how much fun they are until you put your hands on them. Take a look.
Plants vs Zombies 2
It’s not been long since Plants vs Zombies 2 was released worldwide, but the download record it has racked up is surprisingly delightful. Though most of the credit should be given to its predecessor Plants vs Zombies, the new game embraces a handful of noteworthy features that add up to the fun of the game as a whole. If you haven’t picked it up, you really should now.

Kingdom Rush Frontiers
Uruguay-based Ironhide Game Studio did a wonderful job balancing the old and new elements, presenting a perfect iOS tower defense game based on the classic browser-based Kingdom Rush! The core gameplay is the same as the original, but the new game Kingdom Rush Frontiers introduces enough additions and improvements to make it feel fresh and exciting. If you enjoyed the previous game, you will be sure to have fun in this new sequel.

Pirate Legends TD
Pirate Legends TD is a newly released tower defense game set on the vast ocean. You will play as a pirate captain to sail through a tropical paradise as you defend yourself from hordes of pesky enemies, such as British Navy, hunger-infested cannibal tribes, and the restless undead horde. The game plays much like Kingdom Rush Frontiers, but offers different defense fun.
Eden to Green
From famous social game publisher Zynga comes Eden to Green, a new tower defense game for iOS and Android. Like Plants vs Zombies, the game tasks you to protect your land from alien invasion with an array of plants. What’s unique about the game is that it not only asks you to defend, but also to expand. It’s your ultimate mission to drive away the horrid alien machines and restore green to the whole fantasy land.

Bloons TD Battles
Yet another port of classic browser-based tower defense games! The epic series Bloons TD has gone through 6 years and embraced a fair amount of members, including Bloons TD, Bloons TD 3, Bloons TD 5, etc. Practice shows it can be equally fun when placed on mobile platforms. Bloons TD Battles, a must-have on your iDevices!
Toy Defense 2
As a sequel to smash hit Toy Defense, Toy Defense 2 introduces more in-depth levels, more unique battling units, and more intense combat. Set in the epic WWII, the new game casts you in a number of engaging missions to recruit, level up and command an army in an effort to protect your base from waves of enemies’ deadly strikes.

Storm of Magic
Bearing a resemblance to Plants vs Zombies, Storm of Magic is a standard tower defense game embracing elements like strategy, action and puzzle. The game is driven by story and based on missions, delivering an addictive as well challenging tower defense experience. If you’d like to challenge yourself, Storm of Magic is a perfect choice.

Even if you are a hardcore TD game fan, you will be amazed by this awesome 3D rendered game named Siegecraft TD. Unlike the average tower defense games saturating the App Store, the game does’t set a fixed route. Instead, you build up the defense towers on an open field and spare some space as the route. Unlimited strategic choices will definitely drive you crazy.

Battle Bears Fortress
Battle Bears Fortress is a new member of the award-winning Battle Bears series. The game bears lots of similarities to Plants vs Zombies, from the interface setting, gameplay, and even items. When I was waiting for PvZ 2 to come, it served as a wonderful substitute. But now I’d rather dump more of my time in PvZ 2.
300 Dwarves is a typical tower defense game with similar game mechanics to Kingdom Rush. It is about a band of dwarves fighting valiantly for their kingdom against the vicious green hordes. Though it may not render so much fun as other classic games, its hand-drawn arts may easily grasp your eyes and get you absorbed for a couple of hours.
