Tower Defense games like Plants vs Zombies and Kingdom Rush are my favorites on the iOS platform. They successfully stole tens of hours of my life and I never felt regretful for that. You know, with a ton of games released on the App Store each day, it’s common to see a number of them copying from each other. But that’s definitely not the case with TowerMadness 2. With improved graphics and better stage designs, the game has a good potential of exceeding its predecessors in many ways.

The original TowerMadness game was released back in May, 2009 by Limbic Software, an independent developer founded by a small group of people. Two other versions followed in that year. Up till now, the title has successfully racked up millions of downloads and its Facebook page has garnered over 45,000 likes.
If you don’t have any knowledge of the original game, TowerMadness is a unique tower defense game with open maps and a zoomable 3D camera. Your in-game task is to make use of a variety of defending towers to protect a flock of sheep from being abducted by waves of aliens.
Tower Madness 2 continues with the theme of sheep vs aliens. Pretty much like all previous tower defense titles, the new game asks you to build towers to fight off enemies, each destroyed providing the player with more in-app coins to obtain new towers and upgrade existing towers for more damage output. Once all waves of enemies are destroyed or all sheep have been abducted, the game ends.
What’s unusual for this game is that it does not set a fixed route for the aliens to march along. Which means technically you may build towers at anywhere on the open maps and of course, you’ve got to spare some place as paths for the enemies to step on.
If you find the game proceed over too slowly, you may double the speed by tapping on the acceleration key placed at the right corner of the lower screen. But before that, make sure your reflex is capable of dealing with difficult situations at that speed.
From winning in each map, you will gain stars to unlock higher stages and wool that serves as money to unlock higher levels of towers. There are currently 40 stages across 4 campaigns. And as the stage ramps up, more powerful towers will be unlocked to assist you in the effort.

Abandoning the endless mode in previous versions, the new game introduces an Invasion Mode for players looking for a more difficult and rewarding adventure. In this particular mode, all UFOs are sent as quickly as possible, and the rounds have a bonus of +25% wool. Playing in Invasion Mode also means faster times, perfect for beating your friends in Game Center.
At the end of the day, TowerMadness 2 might not be the type of game you could get used to or find attractive in the first few minutes. But if you dare to dig into the depth of it, you will be rewarded with an addictive, occasionally challenging strategy-demanding game.
