Chinese iOS games’ market, though packed with copycat games, has no lack of innovative iOS games, such as Carrot Fantasy, I Am MT: Card Battle, etc. The newly released iPhone game Pantheon Legend, which is developed by China-based ChangYou, apparently is a rip-off of I AM MT: Card Battle and it resembles MT in almost every single way, ranging from interface settings, card collection, hero evolution, to dungeon crawling and PvP arena combat. Perhaps it’s more fair to define Pantheon Legend like this: it is another I AM MT: Card Battle with just otherwise animated characters and a nonsense storyline involving a cast of mythical and legendary heroes from a wide range of eras and countries.
Unlike I AM MT: Card Battle which was inspired by a widely popular cartoon series, Pantheon Legend is kind of lame at its storyline devising. Despite the fact that nobody actually cares much about the storyline, games with some sort of backgrounds (movies, novels, or TV series, etc) are usually better received by players that have knowledge about the backgrounds. That’s why Chinese developers are prone to base their games on western mythologies. But the fact is that most of the stories are neither eye-catching nor mind-blowing to the western users. Such is the case with Pantheon Legend.
Aside from the storyline, Pantheon Legend is pretty as easy to get started as any other card battle games. Upon your first entry, it lets you choose from three characters: Dracula, Hercules, and Pandora. Once you have decided your character, a quick tutorial will guide you through the basics of the game, but most of the deep intricate strategies are left to be discovered on your own.
In the game, you build a team of up to 6 mythological character cards and send them in battle against hellish monsters and bosses as you complete quests in different dungeons. You are free to explore any normal, event, and elite dungeons as you wish, and you have a chance to gain valuable boss cards in each dungeon. Winning battles in all the dungeons will help you collect extra items and new cards than can be used to strengthen your team, or upgrade and enhance your heroes. The only problem is that all the battles are completely automated. You are only allowed to adjust the position of your characters between fights with waves of monsters.
As the game progresses, you will have more tasks to complete. When you reach level 10, you will be able to accumulate hero chips dropped by dungeon bosses, and combine a certain number of them to create a complete mighty hero card for your team. Also, when you reach level 30, all the heroes in your team will be able to master the chief skills at the Skill Academy. In the future updates, the game will also features a PvP arena where you can duel with players from all over the world.
All deep strategies are embodied in hero upgrades and card formation. In the game, each card can either be added to the team, or be fused with other cards to upgrade its stats and level. When a card reaches the maximum level in its star class, you can combine it with the items or loot you collected in dungeons, and evolve into a more powerful card. As dungeon quests become more challenging, you have to constantly upgrade and enhance all cards in your team so as to defeat much stronger monsters and bosses. Sometimes, you even need to change your team members to optimize your fighting capabilities.
Aside from hero upgrades, tactic card formation is also of critical importance. In order to make your team fight more efficiently, you should deploy your heroes in appropriate places according to their unique abilities. The general principle is to place the heroes that can endure monster attacks in the front row, while healers that can restore health for all teammates and offensive heroes that can deal more physical or magic damage in the back row. For those difficult dungeons that you cannot complete for the first time, you need to try again and again to find the solutions. Sometimes, even a slight positional adjustment to your card formations will help you overcome them quickly.
You can access all content of this free to play game without any cost, but you will progress at a far slower pace than those who spend real money. There are many items available for purchase, such as instant energy replenishment, inventory expansion with 5 more hero slots, and crystal packs that can be used to summon rare cards.

Like I said, Pantheon Legend copies almost every details of I AM MT: Card Battle, presenting an increative yet passable card battle game. If ever Pantheon Legend could be successful, the credit should be given to I AM MT: Card Battle.
